Warm Fingers Around My Heart

Once in a while,
Without an invitation,
An ancestor slides her warm hand
Slowly into my chest.
It hurts,
Just a little,
When her fingers wrap
Around my heart
And squeeze.
I stop.
I close my eyes
And breathe.
A fuzzy longing
To be reconnected
With
I’m not sure whom.
Comes with her.
It wags its tail at my feet
And jumps up
Licking my face
As it oozes into my chest.
It lays its head on my heart
And thumps,
Thumps, and thumps
Memories,
Too far gone,
And too foggy
To make out.
I turn slowly.
My eyes wide open
Hoping to see
Who is wrapping
Her warm and gentle fingers
Deep inside my chest.
